Silent Night (Do not go gentle into that good night*)
Simone Kennedy asked a small group of people to answer 13 questions that would relate their life experience to their mother/caregiver, focusing on the idea of inter-generational trauma. The answers to the questions would form the basis of a new series of paintings showing diverse stages of attachment.
Each artwork represents fragments of disparate personal histories. Though these individual narratives may seem disconnected, they are ultimately bound together by shared human experience. The inter-connectedness of attachment, and non-attachment, weaves a complex, layered collective of the human lived experience, that, when brought together, forms a visual, symbolic record of human resilience, memory, and ultimately the formation of identity.
